Saying “I do” can help your health

Today’s guest blog is written by Benjamin Gladden, husband and father of three, who’s currently logging lots of hours in the “What makes for a good marriage and parent” department. He writes from his home in Framingham, Massachusetts.

“Marriage is hard work,” I recently told my teenage son. “But it’s totally worth it!”

My son looked at me somewhat incredulously – “It takes work?” his face seemed to say.

My wife and I are going on 17 years so we know firsthand about the work it involves.

This past year we’ve invested more time into promoting the health of our relationship, through dedicated prayer and study of the Bible, as well as through some helpful guidebooks on marriage. While it hasn’t all been easy, we’re seeing the results. Because a happy marriage doesn’t just fall from the sky, land in your lap and stay there. Maybe that’s why divorce stats are so high?
